Crossing Guard Position for 59th and 9th Avenue
If you know of anyone interested in becoming a crossing guard near Speyer, The NYPD position of school crossing guard is part-time employment that comes with a personal sense of job satisfaction as you safeguard school children walking across busy intersections on their way to and from school. School crossing guards oversee and control traffic flow around schools in the morning, at lunch time, and at the end of the school day.
Entrusted with the safety of the city's schoolchildren, candidates for this position are asked to meet certain physical and medical requirements, and complete six days of training at the NYC Police Academy once appointed. In return, school crossing guards are rewarded with an exceptional opportunity to serve their community, while earning a competitive salary with family health insurance benefits. Learn more here.

Spark Conversation with your Child(ren) about their Experiences and Observations
Introducing the 7 Speyer Maxims to guide conversations with your child(ren) as it relates to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) and their lived experiences at Speyer and beyond.
Acknowledge – recognize the opinions and contributions of others, even when different from my own. Remember that no (1) one voice is more important, more valued or more “correct” than another. All voices are equal in the Speyer community
Encourage – stand by or stand up for my classmate, especially when they make a mistake while taking a risk and trying their best
Speak Up - use my words to uplift and not tear down. Speak up immediately when someone uses words designed to make someone feel bad about their race, gender, religion, ethnicity, LGBTQ+ identity, language, neurodiversity, SEL, body type, etc.
Say No – never use the N-word or any racial slur. Report (publicly or privately) any community member who does. Speyer has zero tolerance for racist language
Respect – give others the personal space to showcase their individuality and self-expression. Celebrate different hair textures, complexions, body types by keeping my hands and comments to myself. If I have questions, I should ask them in a kind and respectful way
Advocate – use my voice to help others who are unable to stand up for themselves, especially those facing bullying, prejudice or discrimination
Shout Out – celebrate what makes our class uniquely diverse in race, gender, religion, ethnicity, LGBTQ+ identity, language, neurodiversity, SEL, body type, etc. Give a shout out to those who may feel “otherized” or need an ally or support
