Lower School Dragons Show Their Moves and Celebrate Dance at Speyer with Family and Friends!
Shuffle, flap! Plié! Relevé! These moves and more were on display recently as our Lower School dancers welcomed family and friends to an Open Dance Class to celebrate what they've been learning with Speyer's Dance Educator Ms. Kelly!
Kindergarten dancers have been diving into self-expression and storytelling, creating original poses and improvising movement as they “dance a story.” First Grade dancers are cool cats, er, Dragons as they have been learning jazz’s signature qualities and classic jazz steps, while second graders have been a-tap-tap-tappin', discovering the great art form of tap. Third graders are studying the traditions of ballet and practicing the foundational ballet steps such as plié, tendu, relevé, and port de bras! And our fourth graders have embraced the role of choreographer – exploring a variety of tools and techniques to craft and create their own dances! During a few of the open classes, our parents and our teachers had a chance to show off their dancing skills as well!
Not to be left out, our Middle Schoolers have been dancing up a storm too! This past semester, fifth graders have taken on the challenge of improvisation, fearlessly embracing risk-taking and developing ideas together — and next semester, Speyer sixth graders will take to the dance floor.
The energetic spirit of our Dragon dancers spills out from the Performing Arts Studio every day and is infectious for everyone at 925 Ninth Avenue! HUGE standing ovation to all of our dancers and special thanks to Ms. Kelly for all of her amazing work!
