Speyer Girls Chess Dominates at the All-Girls National Chess Tournament

ANOTHER National Championship! That's what the Speyer Girls Chess team brought home from the All-Girls National Chess Tournament in Chicago last weekend. We had 15 Dragons head to the Windy City and, once again, they shined! Our Under 10 team placed first and are the National Champions, while our Under 14 team placed second and our Under 12 team tied for second! AMAZING!

Not only that, but our Dragons earned many individual awards as well! Winnie T-T. went undefeated and Daisy Y. tied for third in the Under 14 section, Aileen L. tied for eighth in the U12 section, and Athena T. tied for third and Abigail Z. placed ninth in the U10 section! WOW!

We have to mention that Speyer’s MS teams in the Under 12 and Under 14 sections initially lacked the necessary number of players to constitute a full team (each team only had two of necessary three players). In an act of bravery, two of our second graders put their school first and their personal ambitions second — Marianna G. and Winnie T-T., who both could have excelled in the Under 10 section (AND who can still play in that section next year) joined the Under 12 and Under 14 teams, respectively. Our accomplishments would not have been possible without them! HUZZAH!

Congrats to ALL of our Speyer Girls Chess players, our amazing coaches, and incomparable Chess team parents! GO DRAGONS!
