Dragon Debate Dominates: Winning Records, Top Speaker Awards, and Earning Novice Gavel AGAIN!
Saturday was another banner day for the Speyer Debate Team, marked by a record number of debaters and judges, whose hard work, resilience, and team spirit exemplified our Speyer Dragon values!
Congratulations to all 53 — yes, that's 5-3! — debaters for giving it their all, securing a number of winning records across both divisions and two undefeated Eighth Grade Varsity teams! Speyer ended up taking the second and fourth place team spots in the Varsity Division, alongside third, fourth, and sixth place team places in the Novice Division. AMAZING!
It turns out "hat tricks" aren't just for ice hockey — Speyer was also awarded the Novice Gavel for the third month in a row! Huge congratulations to fifth grader Dorothy F. on this achievement and to the six additional Speyer students who placed in the top 10 individual speakers across the Novice and Varsity categories. WAHOO!
A special highlight of the day was the new impromptu debate round! Seeing our Dragon debaters collaborate in the moment and think on their feet was truly exhilarating. We are so proud of the entire Speyer Debate Team! Shout-out to our fantastic Debate coaches and thank you again for our parent volunteers! Stay tuned for the results from the upcoming March 7 tournament, where our Dragon debaters will tackle topics ranging from streaming services to standardized testing! GO DRAGONS!
